Are you interested in spending your Saturday afternoons helping to build

and operate the "Denver's RailRoads" layout right here in Mandurah?

No experience is required — just an interest in Model Railways

If you are interested please contact Dennis on 0418 211 108 for a chat about joining the team

Objective

To be part of a group of like-minded men and women aged between 18 and 80 who want to be part of what is known as "The World's Greatest Hobby" helping to build a fairly large model railway, right here in Mandurah, WA. Young people under the age of 18 who wish  to join will require their parents written permission. There are no costs or fees involved.

Scale and Prototype

Denver's RailRoads is a large 37'x17' N scale model railroad housed in a dedicated 4 car garage on a half acre block in Mandurah, WA. It is based on the six railroads — Rio Grande, Burlington Route, Colorado & Southern, Rock Island, Union Pacific and Santa Fe — that ran passenger trains through Denver Union Terminal in the 1950s and 1960s, prior to the creation of Amtrak and Burlington Northern.

The Denver's RailRoads Layout

The Denver's RailRoads layout is about 50% complete. All of the bench work is in place and track for the two main lines — Rio Grande and Union Pacific/Burlington Route — have been laid, together with the main Yards. Track for two major branch lines has still to be laid together with 80% of the wiring. About 100 plastic structure kits need to be painted and glued together. Only one module has had its scenery completed.

So as you can see there is plenty to do and to learn from.

Skills you will learn and meeting structure

Carpentry • Electronics • Soldering • Model Building • Kit Construction • Scenery Building • Research • Railroad History • Model Train Operations • Teamship

We plan to work from 1pm to 5pm every Saturday afternoon. The first 2-3 hours will involve construction followed by an hour or so "running trains" to prototype operational standards.

NMRA-AR

If you wish you will have the opportunity to join the NMRA-AR (National Model Railroad Association — Australasian Region) in Australia. The NMRA-AR is based in the USA but in Australia it is open to all scales and prototypes and is not specifically American. For more information on the NMRA-AR in Australia please check out their web site at National Model Railroad Association – Australasian Region (nmra.org.au).

You do not need to be an NMRA-AR member to work on the Denver's RailRoads layout.
